The bipolar recovery journey involves learning the behavioral skills needed to live a full, healthy, stable, purposeful, and meaningful life. Our coaching services provide the training needed to support teens and adults living with bipolar disorder achieve and sustain recovery while offering support and education to friends and caregivers in the process.

Coaching involves teaching the behavioral skills necessary for successfully managing the daily challenges of living with bipolar disorder. Coaching is a hands on process during which clients learn to embrace their diagnosis and develop strategies and techniques needed to live a full and meaningful life.

Family education and support is a critical feature of helping clients with bipolar disorder thrive. Coaching helps family members learn the most effective ways to support their loved ones manage the responsibilities of successfully living with bipolar disorder.

The Center for Bipolar Recovery offers short-term and long-term family therapy. Family therapy focuses on improving communication skills and boundaries while working through family dynamics and trauma related to living with a bipolar relative.

Bipolar support groups are invaluable part of the recovery process. Support groups provide a sense community and allow for education and feedback.

The Center for Bipolar Recovery offers in-person and remote coaching services. In-person coaching are provided across the Los Angeles area.
About Us
Christopher Mulligan LCSW is the founder and clinical director of The Center for Bipolar Recovery. Christopher has been working with children, teens, and adults with Bipolar Disorder for the past thirty years in a variety of clinical settings, including residential and outpatient. Christopher has focused on providing coaching services for the past ten years. Bipolar coaching involves teaching the specific behavioral skills that are needed to effectively manage the daily challenges of living with a mood disorder, including sobriety, self regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, physical and psychological well being, medication management/compliance, healthy sleep and exercise patterns, and coping with relapse and hospitalizations. In addition to coaching services Christopher conducts support and psychoeducation groups for teens and adults living with Bipolar Disorder. Christopher attended Sarah Lawrence College, where he received his BA in psychology and philosophy in 1984. Christopher went on to study philosophy of science at The New School for Social Research from 1985 to 1987. Christopher proceeded to earn his MSW from USC in 1992 with a specialization in adult mood disorders .
